Minimum Requirements
Before getting started, it’s important to confirm you have the minimum hardware and configuration requirements for installing BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for IBM® Lotus® Domino®.
Confirm you have the minimum hardware and configuration requirements:
- For up to 500 users: Intel® Pentium® IV processor (2GHz or greater), 1.5 GB RAM, MSDE 2000 on the same computer
- Windows® 2000 Server (Server or Advanced Server Editions) SP4 or Windows Server 2003 SP1
- A copy of IBM® Lotus® Domino® Server 5.03 or later (5.0.12 or later recommended), or IBM Lotus Domino Server 6.0.1 CF2 or later, or IBM Lotus Domino Server 6.5 or later, installed on the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, in addition to the production Domino server
- Communicates with the existing Lotus Domino mail server 5.03 or later—5.0.12 or later recommended (6.0.4+ or 6.5.4+ if you want unread mark reconciliation to work)
- Microsoft® Internet Explorer® version 6.0 or later

Pre-installation Tasks
To successfully complete a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server installation, you must complete the following pre-installation tasks:
- The messaging server that will host the BlackBerry Enterprise Server must have a fully functioning IBM® Lotus® Domino® Server already installed and should have been connected to the intranet (internal network) at least once
- Configure IBM Lotus Domino to permit access to BlackBerry® specific databases from both the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and from BlackBerry Manager remote installations. For further information, please refer to page 25 of the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for IBM® Lotus® Domino® Installation Guide
- Ensure that your computer has Microsoft® Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 with Security Patch MS04-003, 2.8 Service Pack 1 or 2.8 Service Pack 2 installed. Go to the MDAC Download Center
- Ensure that your computer has the Java® Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver that matches your version of Microsoft SQL Server™.
- If you are using Lotus Sametime® Enterprise Instant Messaging Service, ensure that you are installing version 4.1 or later of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software. Add the IP address of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the Trusted IPs field of stconfig.nsf on the Sametime Server. See the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center article KB04928 (Optional)
- If you are running a multi-domain IBM Lotus Domino environment, you must update your registry. See the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center article KB05221 for more information (Optional)
- If you have IBM Lotus Notes® encryption enabled in your IBM Lotus Domino environment, make sure you review the requirements in the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center article KB05103 (Optional)
- If you intend to run BlackBerry Manager from a remote workstation, please review the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center article KB04147 (Optional)

Add a User Account to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
When you add a user account to the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, the messaging environment must meet the following requirements to support user accounts that reside in different locations in your messaging environment:
| User location | Messaging environment requirements |
|---|---|
| The user account resides on the IBM® Lotus® Domino® server. In this instance, this server is not the same as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. | The IBM Lotus Domino server must have a replica (central directory) of the primary IBM Lotus Domino Directory. |
| The user account resides on an IBM Lotus Domino Directory server in the same IBM Lotus Domino domain. In this instance, this server is the same as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. | The Domino server should have the Manager role and delete documents permission to the user’s mail file. |
| The user account resides on an IBM Lotus Domino administration server in a different IBM Lotus Domino domain. | Establish cross-certification in the primary IBM Lotus Domino Directory to access the foreign directory server and configure the Access Control List to enable the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to access the primary IBM Lotus Domino Directory. The IBM Lotus Domino administration server must be a directory server and have a network connection that can handle the load created by the address lookups that users perform on BlackBerry® smartphones. |
Other considerations include the following:
- If you use central directory server architecture in IBM Lotus Domino R6, the server from which you add the user account must have a replica of the primary IBM Lotus Domino Directory
- You may add a user account to only one BlackBerry Enterprise Server at a time
- If you add a user account that was previously on another BlackBerry Enterprise Server in a different BlackBerry Domain, you must implement the BlackBerry smartphone. Easy steps to add a user account
- In the BlackBerry Manager, in the left pane, click a BlackBerry Enterprise Server
- On the Server Configuration tab, click Common
- Click Add Users. Perform one of the following actions:

- Click a user
- Click Add
- Click OK
