BlackBerry® smartphones purchased directly from Research In Motion (RIM) are covered under a one (1) year warranty for defects in material and workmanship from the date the product was shipped. If you did not purchase your smartphone directly from RIM, please contact your service provider for warranty information.
If your smartphone is no longer covered under the one (1) year warranty, but requires service, you have three options:
Return Smartphone for Repair

If you choose to return your smartphone to RIM for repair, please keep in mind:
- You are responsible for the cost of shipping the device to RIM
- You will be without your smartphone for approximately 15 business days
If the smartphone is damaged beyond repair, RIM will contact you and either ship the smartphone back to you or destroy it, in which case a $50 USD inspection fee will be charged.
If your smartphone has been water damaged, it cannot be repaired or exchanged. In this situation, a new smartphone is recommended.

Exchange Smartphone

If you choose the Exchange service program, please be aware:
- You will receive your replacement smartphone within 5-7 business days. RIM will include a pre-addressed waybill for the returning smartphone and RIM will be responsible for the return shipping provided that waybill is used
- If the old smartphone is not returned within 10 business days or is damaged beyond repair (including water damage), RIM reserves the right to charge a fee
