ICQ Features

ICQ® for BlackBerry® smartphones allows you to chat in virtual real time with your instant messaging (IM) contacts when and where you want to – not just when you’re in front of your computer.

Download From Your BlackBerry Smartphone

If the ICQ icon is already on your home screen after you register your BlackBerry smartphone, all you have to do is click the icon and follow the instructions to install the service2.

If you don’t see the icon on your home screen, browse to http://www.blackberry.com/instantmessaging on your BlackBerry device and select ICQ from the list.

Getting Started

Once you’ve installed ICQ® for BlackBerry® smartphones, all you need to get started is an ICQ number. If you already have one, you can use the same ICQ number and password to sign into ICQ on your BlackBerry device.

To connect to ICQ, first make sure your BlackBerry device is connected to a wireless network. Then:

  1. On the Home screen, click the ICQ icon
  2. Type your ICQ number and password
  3. To connect to ICQ for BlackBerry devices automatically, select the Auto-Connect check box
  4. Click Connect

How do I...?

Add a Contact:

  1. On the contact list screen, press the Menu key
  2. Click Add User
  3. In the ICQ # field, type an ICQ number
  4. Click OK

Set my availability status:

  1. On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Click My Status
  3. Click a status
  4. Click OK

Start a conversation:

  1. On the Buddy List screen, highlight an ICQ user
  2. Press the Menu key
  3. Click Send Message
  4. Type a message
  5. Press the Enter key

Add an emoticon to graphically express a feeling:

  1. When you are typing a message, press the Symbol key two to three times
  2. Click an emoticon

System Requirements

Before downloading ICQ® for your BlackBerry® smartphone, check to see that you meet the below requirements:

  • Smartphones supported: BlackBerry® 8800 smartphone from T-Mobile USA
  • 350 kB (350000 bytes) of free memory (Go to Options -> Status to find your device's free memory)
  • An ICQ number (visit www.icq.com on your desktop browser to learn how to obtain a Number and Password)
  • BlackBerry data service*
  • If your device is connected to a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, your IT Department must have IT Policy set to allow Yahoo! Messenger functionality
