Start using the Yahoo! Messenger on your BlackBerry smartphone:
  1. Sign up for a Yahoo! ID if you don't have one

  2. Click the Yahoo! Messenger icon on your BlackBerry smartphone

  3. Enter your Yahoo! ID and password, then click the sign in button

  • Sign into Yahoo! Messenger for BlackBerry smartphones in one of three ways:
    1. With Remember my ID & password, you don't have to enter your details every time you sign in
    2. Automatically sign in logs you on to the service whenever your BlackBerry smartphone's in a wireless coverage area
    3. Sign in as visible allows you to appear offline when you sign in so you can see who's online, then decide when you're ready to chat.
  • Add contacts by clicking the trackball/trackwheel on the Yahoo! contacts screen. Click Add a Contact, then select a group from the drop-down list. In the Yahoo! ID field, enter your contact's Yahoo! ID. Click OK.1
  • To set your availability status, click the trackball/trackwheel on the Yahoo! contacts screen. Click Change My Status, then choose from Available, Busy or Invisible. Click OK.2
  • Start a conversation by clicking a contact on the Yahoo! contacts screen. Click Start a Conversation. Type your message, then press the Enter key to send the message
  • Enter emoticons by pressing the Symbol key twice (three times on a BlackBerry® 7100 Series smartphone) while typing a message. Click the emoticon you want to enter

1When the contact you've added accepts your invitation, their name and status will appear in your contact list.
2to prevent your contacts from sending you instant messages, set your availability status to Invisible. You'll appear to be offline in their contact lists.
