The BlackBerry® Plug-in for Microsoft® Visual Studio® allows enterprise developers and system integrators to leverage existing Microsoft® based developer tools to rapidly create applications for BlackBerry® smartphones.
Developers working within a .NET programming environment use their development tool of choice, while still taking advantage of the benefits of key rapid application development features found in BlackBerry® MDS Studio in order to quickly create superior mobile applications that leverage the unique strengths of the BlackBerry experience.

New Features
The BlackBerry Plug-in for Microsoft Visual Studio v1.1 releases are now available with several new features:
- Integrated source control support: Check in and out of Microsoft Visual Source Safe 2005
- DataGridView control: A table-like control, allowing frozen rows, horizontal scrolling, grid view, alternate styles and more
- GPS enhancements: JavaScript® notifications will be sent when the location changes
- Enhanced integration with other BlackBerry applications with the application invoke API:
- Invoke native BlackBerry applications from BlackBerry® MDS Runtime applications
- Invoke BlackBerry MDS Runtime applications from native BlackBerry applications
- Invoke BlackBerry MDS Runtime applications from other BlackBerry MDS Runtime applications
- Invoke custom BlackBerry applications from BlackBerry MDS Runtime applications
- Invoke BlackBerry MDS Runtime applications from custom BlackBerry applications
- NET developers creating web applications with ASP.NET mobile controls will be able to target the BlackBerry® Browser much more easily
- Use BlackBerry Browser when debugging applications
- Standalone publishing tool: Applications can be published outside the Microsoft Visual Studio environment
