Web services are a fundamental component of mobile development. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach helps you harness the potential of web services in your applications for the BlackBerry® solution. Research In Motion (RIM) has developed an entire application methodology to help you easily extend web services and other powerful resources to BlackBerry smartphone users.
RAD also lets you create customized user interfaces and access more advanced features. This means greater development power and flexibility than with the BlackBerry® Browser development approach, without the more involved development required in the Java™ Application Development approach.
Please note that applications created through the RAD approach can only be used on BlackBerry smartphones that are connected to a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server. This is due to required data compression functionalities that are not available to smartphones using BlackBerry® Internet Service.
