Note: an end of life has been scheduled for the following products:
  • BlackBerry® MDS Runtime
  • BlackBerry® MDS Studio
  • BlackBerry® Plug-in for Microsoft® Visual Studio®
Creating rich GUI screens via drag-and-drop is only the beginning—the Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach helps you implement numerous advanced features, no matter which development tool you choose to use. These features include the following:

GPS Support
Create location-based services by accessing GPS information via JavaScript. Request location information on the fly or register a callback when the user’s location information changes. Both the BlackBerry® Browser and BlackBerry MDS Runtime applications share the same JavaScript API for GPS.

BlackBerry Integration
Add menu items into existing native BlackBerry applications. The menu action items enable you to invoke both BlackBerry and BlackBerry MDS Runtime applications and pass information between applications.

HotKey Support
Assign specific keys on the BlackBerry smartphone to trigger actions on different controls. This is a great way to provide keyboard shortcuts to your most commonly used actions.

Store and Forward
Leverage the asynchronous communications infrastructure of the BlackBerry solution to automatically handle in- and out-of-coverage scenarios. Data sent from the smartphone while out of coverage is stored and then forwarded to the server when the user re-enters coverage. Data pushed to the smartphone while out of coverage is also stored at the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server until the BlackBerry smartphone is ready to receive data.

Native PIM
Easily access the native BlackBerry PIM storage to tightly integrate with personal information. Search, display, or modify items such as messages, tasks, and appointments.
